Reducing Barriers for Women Fleeing Violence

BCSTH is working on a project funded by Status of Women Canada to reduce barriers to support for women experiencing violence who have varying levels of mental wellness and substance use.

To kick off the process of developing Promising Practices for supporting women in Transitional Houses in BC, we have composed a research-based discussion paper outlining:

  • The links between violence against women, mental wellness and substance use
  • Barriers to service for women
  • Barriers to providing support to women
  • Components of Best Practices for supporting women

This discussion paper will help to form the basis of our Promising Practices toolkit for supporting women in Transitional Housing in BC.

We encourage women impacted by violence, mental wellness and/or substance use, service agencies in these three sectors, researchers and anyone else interested to review the paper. Your feedback will be valuable as we move forward with this project.
